Background

My name is Harshini Asokumar. I’m 11 years old living in NJ. I have a passion for writing and I'm aware that other kids do too! Through writing, I am able to express my feelings and bring life to my imaginary characters. When I am not writing, I love skating, dancing, playing violin, and singing. In skating, I've learned an important skill that should be applied everywhere. Admitting to yourself and others that I nor others are perfect. You have to admit you are making mistakes, small or big and that you working hard to improve. Don't always think you are the best. Nobody is.

The Cause

I like helping other people in a creative way and sometimes kids wonder how they put their talent to use. I created BloomingFlowers which allows kids to get an opportunity to feel proud of their work while also know they are helping to give the same opportunity to a child somewhere in the world. Writers can build confidence and skill while I, the founder, and some executive team members worry about collecting money from sponsors and donating towards our cause - equal education for all.

What I Believe in... How it All Started!

I believe in equal rights. And some of you may be thinking, "What? You would say we already do have equal rights." Unfortunately, we do not. Not even within the United States. Equal rights don't just include allowing everyone regardless of differences to speak up, have fair trials, etc. it includes having equal access to education as well and the right to have supplies necessary for this. It all started when I went on a trip to some rural areas in India. Some of the schools had desks for only 8th grade and above. They can't afford all of the school supplies and are barely managing to supply textbooks. Please join me on my quest to donate words for poor kids. Kids can help kids!
